Have you ever heard about the GROW model?
Well, it’s a coaching and mentoring tool that fosters open questions and active listening to identify your mentee’s goals, analyze the current situation and map out action plans.
Last Wednesday, in Lidr Community PRO, Gonzalo Fernandez, founder of Appdermis, shared a session where he explained how the Grow model works and how we as managers can get the most out of it:
🏆 Goals and aspirations
It’s important for your mentee to know what he wants. That’s why it’s relevant you guide him to set his goals based on the SMART method. — Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-based. It will allow you to design a plan and keep track of your progress.
Once the goal has been defined, you need to have a clear and precise idea of your mentee’s current situation to know how far or close he is to achieving the goal.
Inquire about past actions and what obstacles might be holding back his development at the moment.
The third step is to draw up a list of possible options that could help your mentee address the goal set and choose which will best help him to move forward.
Here I talk about actions and accountability. After having the goal set, the current situation, and the proper tools, it’s time to kick-start the action plan.
Make sure your mentee has specific actions to take, a timeframe, and how you will measure them.
In your role as a manager or leader, it’s necessary to practice your mentoring skills, using simple methods that lead to your team’s growth, both professionally and personally. It will boost your success as well! :)
