Conflicts are present in all teams. How to resolve them? 💊
We all face conflicts at some point in our lives with family, friends, and even in our workplace, and it’s very normal to have them. They are part of our lives.
Especially at work, conflicts cause bitter moments, frustrations, disagreements, and sadness. They hurt not only those involved in the conflict, but they can also hurt others for one reason: the energies they transmit.
Both leaders and team members try to avoid them in any way possible! But the key is not to fear or try to avoid conflicts but to learn how to resolve them in a healthy way.
Probably these situations may happen within your team. For that reason, I have prepared 7 recommendations, so you can handle conflicts the right way.
Don’t immediately jump into conflicts when emotions are running high!
Every time you observe a conflict, take it as an opportunity to learn.
Managing people is not like managing code (deployed/not deployed, binary). It requires communication, active listening, and especially putting yourself in your team’s shoes, so you will be better able to create solutions that take their interests into account and let you reach an agreement quickly and effectively.
Focus on the here-and-now to solve the conflict. If you hold grudges based on past experiences, your ability to see the reality of the current situation will be affected.
When it comes to resolving a conflict, you must evaluate whether it affects the team’s goal: If it doesn’t affect it, step aside and let it go! But if it does, it’s your responsibility to step in and fix it.
Keep in mind that relationships are not quantitative, they are qualitative: we cannot expect others to give us in the same proportion that we give them.
Make alliances with your team members! Come up with a list of things everyone agrees on or can live with, and propose guidelines. During a conflict, those are the rules all have to follow.
We all face conflicts in our workplace, the important thing is not to avoid them but handle and overcome them! In your current role, how do you handle disagreements and conflicts within your team?
